[Johnny's News] Nishikido Ryo Lands His First Movie Starring Role

NewS member Nishikido Ryo (25) lands his first big screen starrer in director Yoshihiro Nakamura’s (“Golden Slumber,” “Team Batista no Eikou”) latest offering, “Chonmage Purin.” ‘Chonmage’ is the name for the distintive top-knot of samurais while ‘purin’ is, simply put, ‘pudding’.

This comedic film tells the strange tale of a young samurai samurai from the Edo period who slipped through time, was based on newspaper-turned-writer Gen Araki. Nishikido is cast as Kijima Yasube, the young samurai from the Edo period who winds up as a popular pastry chef when he accidentally slips through modern times. Co-starring with him will be Tomosaka Rie (30) along with Hiroki Konno, Shiori Kutsuna, Hitomi Sato, Keisuke Horibe, Yuji Nakamura and Jun Inoue.

The theatrical release for “Chonmage Purin” is set this coming summer.

[J-music] SCANDAL’s “Shunkan Sentimental” PV

SCANDAL’s fifth single, “Shunkan Sentimental” PV was released a couple of days ago. The single is being used as the 12th ED for the anime series, “Fullmetal Alchemist.” Wearing decidedly less seifuku-type and moar rockin’ outfits, the girls are definitely a whole lot edgier in their newest PV.

The single will be released this coming February 3.

[J-movie] Maki Likes Confident Kissers? Updates on “Dareka ga Watashi ni Kissu wo Shita”

Yesterday was the press conference for “Dareka ga Watashi ni Kiss wo Shita ~ MEMOIRS OF A TEENAGE AMNESIAC~” at the New Otani hotel in Akasaka, Tokyo. The movie’s main cast, Horikita Maki, Matsuyama Kenichi, Tegoshi Yuuya and Anton Yelchin including the director, Hans Canosa, were all present at the event to talk about the movie and other interesting topics.

Based on Gabrielle Zevin’s novel, “Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac,” the movie is basically a love triangle with the 3 boys trying to win (back) the heart of a girl (Horikita) who just lost her memory of the past 4 years due to an accident. There is the actual boyfriend (Yelchin) whom she can’t recall to be in a relationship with at all; the new guy (Matsuyama) she starts to fall in love with and her always supportive good friend (Tegoshi) who soon starts to feel more than just friendship. During the filming the 3 actors Matsuyama, Tegoshi and Yelchin were able to become really good friends despite the language barrier. “We really made a lot of nice memories together and often would have a meal together with Anton during our free time.” Matsuyama said with a smile. Yelchin replied: “It feels like I got myself another home.”

“How would you guys proceed, if you wanted to kiss the girl you really like a lot?” That was the main question of the event and everyone shared their own opinions and experiences.

Matsuyama started: “I really would think a lot about the right place and the right timing, but eventually nothing would go according to the plan and I would miss the opportunity to kiss her.”

What about Tegoshi? “I would leave the house in the morning with the words, ‘I’ll definitely do it today!’ and try to kiss her as soon as there is an opening, but usually I would fail.”

Yelchin’s story isn’t that much different either. “I once asked the girl I liked: ‘May I kiss you?’ I guess I should have been a bit more aggressive…”

“How can you ask that? (laughs)” Those answers must have been a letdown for Maki, because she actually would like the boy to be more self-confident when trying to kiss her. “Boys really should be a bit pushy regarding the first kiss,” she said with an eager expression.

Director Canossa defended the male gender: “It would actually be a warm welcome, if the girls tried to kiss the boys instead.” Yelchin wholeheartedly agreed and immediately responded: “YES! YES!”

The reporters really enjoyed this little talk and laughed a lot after Yelchin’s final response.

The movie will open in Japan on March 27.
